I joined JACE Training on a study programme when I was 15. I still attended school on a Thursday and Friday but came to JACE for the other three days. At school the teachers organise everything for you so when I first started my study programme I found it quite hard to juggle study and be at my work placement, but my tutor Rebecca and my assessor Natalie were a huge help and supported me all the way through. I am dyslexic, and Rebecca always gave me extra support and time to complete my work. I was based at nursery for part of the week and being treated as an adult and as one of the team made me grow up.
I always knew I wanted to work with children and being at nursery made me realise I love working with the babies in particular. While on my study programme, I completed my Maths and English Functional Skills and gained my Level 1 Childcare qualification. I was then offered a place at Gaytime Day Nursery as an apprentice and am very close to completing my Level 2 Childcare qualification. I am very glad I did a study programme as it gave me time to grow in confidence and now, at 18, has led to my apprenticeship and a career in childcare that I love.
