A Higher Apprenticeship and a recognised professional development qualification that adds value to a business and offers excellent leadership skills and knowledge to employees.

A Higher Apprenticeship for those who are moving into a role or are in a position that involves leading teams and managing staff.

This qualification is suitable for most industries where there is an opportunity to take more responsibility in your work and enhance your career progression, filling any skills gaps a business may have.

Covering areas such as Interpersonal Skills, Organisational Performance and Personal Effectiveness, this Apprenticeship standard could lead into higher management roles in a company.

An overview of the qualification

Areas covered include leading and managing people; building relationships; and communicating in a positive, professional and constructive manner.

Understanding how an organisational strategy is developed and knowing how to implement and manage change within teams, will be an important component.

Understanding problem solving and decision making; taking responsibility and managing difficult situations; being open; approachable and building trust; responding to feedback and operating within organisational values are other criteria of learning.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirement will be decided by the Employer. Generally it might typically be five GCSE’s at Grade C or above (Grade 4 or above in English and Maths).

Length of Apprenticeship

This Apprenticeship will take between 12 and 18 months to complete.

“Stand-alone” qualification

You can take this qualification outside of the Apprenticeship programme by applying for an Advanced Learner Loan or self-funding.

Progression

On completion an apprentice may wish to register as an Associate member with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management.

Quick Questions with Mariam Khan, Occupancy Officer, Jancett Childcare

I left school in July 2012 and started my Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship with JACE Training, based in the Jancett Childcare Head Office, in October 2012. This led to me being promoted to the role of Occupancy Officer for Jancett Childcare. My apprenticeship has helped me grow in confidence and feel able to take on this role. The apprenticeship allowed me to work and study at the same time without ever feeling overwhelmed.

I progressed to my Level 3 Business Admin apprenticeship and would recommend it to anyone looking at business as a career. The level 3 course is very practical. It was mainly all coursework, with only a few tests along the way. I didn’t feel like I had the pressure of having to take exams at the end of it all.
