11 Dec Family Matters!
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! Festive street lights have officially been switched-on; Christmas parties are filling the calendar; carols appear on the radio waves; and coffee shops have long since switched to their Christmas cups. Even the Brexit talks have moved a step forward just recently and so perhaps this really is the season to be cheerful and we should allow any such feelings of optimism to carry into the New Year and beyond.
At JACE, we have found reason to be cheerful too. We were proud supporters of the recent Sutton Business Awards, generously hosted by the principal sponsors, CNM Estates and our team attended the gala dinner event at the Holiday Inn, Sutton on the 16 November. JACE had entered for an award in the category of Best Business for Training and Development and so for me it felt a bit like attending a wedding, when you’re the best man. You’re proud and pleased to be there but can’t really relax until the speech is over and you hear that it’s gone down well, particularly with the bride and her parents. Because of this I found myself nervously nursing just a single glass of wine along during the meal until the moment came to announce the winner under this category.
At this point, I should point out that the award was centred around the business that is considered to best train and develop its own staff. As a training provider that delivers training to external companies and individuals, we thought it only right that we should be setting our own high standards of staff training, as testimony of our belief in the benefits that training can bring to a company.

Another point to note when entering awards, apart from the nerve racking wait during dinner, is that it is a time consuming and soul-searching exercise that needs to be taken seriously. Like most things in life, the end result is often matched by the initial effort and so what a valuable exercise it turned out to be, for it really forces a company to explore its good practise and measure its achievements. You then have the privilege to share this with your local business community. Our attendance at the Awards certainly opened our minds to the wonderful work that is being undertaken in our Borough on a daily basis, to take our community forward. For us, it opened up a pandora’s box of the marvellous achievements that many of our staff have accomplished over the years, striving toward personal development and growth, with our training being the platform to support that endeavour.
And then the moment of truth, with the announcement that the “the winner of the Best Business for Training and Development is……JACE Training Limited! Naturally, we were delighted and proud to hear those words. However, better news was to come, as other parts of our company were also proud winners: Jancett Childcare achieved the award for Best Business for Innovation and Growth, not an easy feat in the highly regulated industry of childcare; whilst JACE Catering was announced winner of Best Business for Food and Hospitality, a marvellous achievement for a company that only began five years ago. Our very own in-house Marketing Department were then Highly Commended for Best Business for Marketing and Social Media!
This made for a very special evening of celebration for our local, family owned business. When we describe family, this is meant in the widest possible sense and extends to all our staff and their families; our customers and students from our community. For especially at this time of year we are reminded that Family really Matters.
Merry Christmas all!
